Biography
Film Composition & Music for Visual Media
Yiran Ma is a Paris-based composer specializing in film music, theatre, and interdisciplinary performance. He holds a Master's degree in Film Composition from the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
His scores for animated films, including Dipolar Bipolar, So Shiny, So Well Shaped, L'Écho des Étoiles, and Colorful Chicks, have been selected and awarded by international film festivals.
He has composed music for films, theatre, dance, musical, and multimedia performances, including SCAR TISSUE, YOPUKAUDA, The Legend of Hongfu, Red and White Song Festival: Love & Peace, the musical Grape, Just Another Creation Myth, The Garden of Jizhu Giving to Solitude, and Us.
His commercial music works include collaborations with international brands and creative projects such as Zhang Yifan's Talitaqoom series, ELLE MEN x Dance New Wave, T Magazine, Magnus Robotic, and Starpower.
His works in film scoring and sound production have been presented at international festivals and platforms including the Beijing International Film Festival, Stuttgart International Film Festival, Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, FIRST Film Festival, Hishorts!, and Aranya Theatre Festival.
Sound Art & Sound Design
Alongside composition, Yiran Ma explores sound as an artistic medium through experimental performance, moving image, and spatial experiences.
He has created sound design and original sound works for experimental dance films including FOLD, Growing Pains, and XIANG QIAN KAN QI, as well as physical theatre projects such as The Garden of Jizhu Giving to Solitude and Us.
For the exhibition performance SCAR TISSUE at Galerie SEE in Paris, he developed an original sound environment integrating electronic textures, voice, and performance.
He has also worked in sound post-production for international advertising campaigns, collaborating with projects including Zhang Yifan's Talitaqoom series, ELLE MEN x Dance New Wave, ELLE MEN x Lu Xun Literary Award, T Magazine, Magnus Robotic, and Starpower.
He worked as a sound designer and recording assistant at Chez Jean Studio in France, contributing to audio projects for CIC, EASYJET, ALBIN MICHEL, U, and other brands.
He currently collaborates with ReelShort, an American short drama platform, with released works including What Doesn't Break Me, How to Break a DILF, How I Made the Alpha Mine Full Series, and Ex-Convict Nanny and Billionaire Single Dad.
